La Longère Rose
Set in the heart of beautiful Poitou-Charentes, La Longère Rose offers luxury self-catering accommodation in a converted 18th-century Poitevin longhouse converted into three holiday cottages. Elegant, comfortable and well equipped, each one of the three cottages is a relaxing backdrop to the most memorable of rural French holidays – whether you are visiting with friends, family or as a couple.
The three cottages have been furnished and equipped to the highest standard. We hope that we have provided everything you could ever need to make your self-catering holiday as stress-free as possible, from internet access to babycare equipment - but if, during your holiday, you think that anything is missing, please let us know.
The gardens and grounds
Surrounded by five acres of beautiful gardens and flowering meadowlands, La Longère Rose is the perfect holiday location. Stay beside the clear-blue swimming pool, relaxing on a sunlounger between cooling dips… or use La Longère Rose as a base from which to explore this most quintessential of French regions.
Guests are invited to explore the four terraces of gardens and grounds that surround La Longère Rose. There are almost six acres of land where you can relax and unwind, play a lively family game of cricket or rounders, fish, watch the wild birds or simply sit by the river. The swimming pool and a boules piste are on the top terrace; the main house, cottages and a lively clutch of chickens are on the second terrace. Below that are the orchard and wildflower meadow on the third terrace; the playing field and marshland are on the bottom terrace.
The swimming pool
There’s nothing quite like a mid-afternoon dip to cool off from the Charente sun, or a spot of poolside relaxation on the terrace, lounging under a parasol with a good book. La Longère Rose’s south-facing swimming pool is accessed through a gate on the top terrace and is enclosed by high, dense hedges. It gently slopes from 0.8 metres to 2 metres, and gives guests 11.5m x 4.5m in which to swim and unwind. The water purification is a saltwater system, which is less harmful to the environment. There is also an anti-plunge pool alarm, which fully complies with French safety regulations. The swimming pool is large enough for games of volleyball and water polo. Pool toys are not provided, but they are available to buy from the local supermarket throughout the summer. Parents are asked to supervise their children in and around the pool at all times. There is a paddling pool available for younger children.
The games room
Located in a hanger adjacent to La Longère Rose, the games room is equipped with a full-size pool table, a table-tennis table and a table football game. It is also ideal for storing bicycles and motorbikes. In the corner of the games room is the laundry room with a tumble dryer and a water treatment plant, which supplies the whole property with soft, filtered water.
In the grounds, you will find a boules piste, a badminton set and space to play football with a goal. Bicycles are also available for guests to borrow. Older children are welcome to play badminton, cricket and football on the bottom field. The village centre of Paizay-le-Tort is a short walk away where there is a skate park, a tennis court, a football pitch and a playground. Outdoor toys are available in the tots’ play area - an enclosed lawn with a lockable gate. Indoor toys are also available to borrow.
Nestling in the valley of the River Berlande, the best way to explore the ancient village of Paizay-le-Tort and the beautiful surrounding countryside is on foot or by bike - borrowed from La Longère Rose or hired locally. There are many marked footpath and cycle routes to explore, some passing right by the end of the lane. Or if you're feeling more adventurous, other local sporting activities include sailing, canoeing, horse riding and karting. The nearest shops are in Brioux or Melle, both about 5kms away. There are local markets most days, but you can also buy bread, fish, meat and general groceries from local traders who regularly visit the village. Please ask us for more details.
The Poitou-Charentes is ripe with character and tradition, but it is one which still welcomes and embraces the new, from the developing cosmopolitan cities of Niort and Poitiers and the ancient forests of Chizé and Aulnay, to the verdant Venise Verte and the wide, wild beaches of the Atlantic coast and chic resorts of La Rochelle and Ile-de-Ré.
